The number of engineers graduating from Indian colleges has ever been increasing, and India is well on its way to beat China to become the largest supplier of engineers to the world. But is it about quality as it is about quantity? The statistics say not. It is evident from these numbers that the reason for this situation is the mismatch between interest and aptitude. Students don’t have an idea upfront about what engineering entails and what to expect out of the career.
Engineering has somehow become a symbol of status among students and parents. And all the different streams of engineering began leading to IT industry, making them all seem the same to students. It is high time students realize the different career paths each stream can lead them to, and choose a stream that leverages their interests and innate talents.
